Lior Lazarof is an Israeli Dance Artist, the Artistic Director of her own company The People. The company collaborates with artists from various disciplines, exploring the border point between the physical body and defined space. In her projects, Lior questions the stage as a medium that creates a space, but is also a binding structure for the relation of spectator-performer. Reflecting aspects of our human lives through dance: emotional, spiritual, physical, social and political, Lior devises an approachable yet challenging performance experiences.

 

Lior studied in the Sadna- professional dance program located in Kibbutz Ga'aton, and Graduated from The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance 2016. She then moved to Europe to further her artistic research.

 

Her work I saw a fish in the river(it had some of you in it) in collaboration with sound composer Adam Marton Horvath was supported in 2016 by the cultural programme of the European Union through the Project Life Long Burning and created as part of a residency hosted by Ultima Vez Dance Company, Brussels.

In 2017 Lior created anōmalía, by the invitation of New Europe Biennial Festival for their 15th anniversary. The work tours internationally since and won the Gala evening in SzoloDuo International Dance Festival in Budapest 2018. Also in 2017, she was commissioned by Cialo/Umsyl(PL) and SIN culture center(HU) to create Variation of Interior, a participatory solo performance which premiered in Cialo/Umsyl Dance Festival in Warsaw.

In 2018 Lior developed a full evening piece for 5 dancers that premiered in Budapest through the support of Bethlen Theater(HU), and in 2019 created a solo choreographic work for the dancer Gary Reagan supported by Machol Shalem Dance House(IL).

Between 2016-2019 Lior was also part of Léxico, an international collaboration and exchange performance project between dance artists who speak different languages.

In 2023 Lior created Guerrilla Project, a dance performance for the public space, which celebrates the beauty of everyday movements and the energy of public spaces. The intervention takes place at unannounced times at lively public spaces with the aim of challenging boundaries and bringing dance to the general public.

Also in 2023 Lior is began developing Tuga Museum- a conceptual series of performances, inspires by David Grossman's book "Falling Out of Time", to take place during 2023-2024.

Lior was awarded residences by Divadlo Dance Theater- Slovakia, Ultima Vez Dance Company- Brussels, Kinitiras- Athens, Workshop Foundation- Budapest, Faber- Spain, Stage Center- Tel Aviv, and was commissioned to create work by Haifa Museum, and Jaffa to Agripas Dance festival. Her work has been presented in Poland, Spain, Czech Republic, Canada, Bulgaria, to name a few. Lior taught and set her choreographic work for various professional and non-professional dance programs world-wide.

 

In 2019 She was selected as an Emerging Choreographer in Springboard Danse Montreal, in 2022 she was selected for the ATLAS program for choreographers in Impulstanz. In 2023 Lior was the winner of Eleo Pomare-Glenn Conner Choreographic residency commission for Kennesaw State University.

 

Lior is a member of The Israeli Choreographers’ Association.
